Working with Laura over the past couple of years has been a great experience, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an experienced, skilled singing teacher, who also cares for her students. Her experience and knowledge across genres (e.g. Jazz, Classical, Musical Theatre) is exceptional, and so helpful for anyone wanting to expand their performance and style repertoire.
As for many year 11 and 12 were an exceptionally busy time for me performance-wise, performing in 5 fully staged musicals, as well as ATAR Music as a vocalist (Musical Theatre), an AMEB exam and many other performance opportunities – Laura was incredibly adaptable through all of this – always meeting me where I was at, and helping with what was needed in that moment.
As a singer, Laura was instrumental in helping me develop and learn about technique, with countless exercises dedicated to placement, breath support etc, she always focused on helping me sound my best whilst improving my technique. Her knowledge of languages is fantastic, and she opened my eyes to the value of classical technique and putting language skills I already had to use.
On the equally as important, less technical side, Laura has a great personality: she is an exceptionally grounded and intelligent human, and her studio was a place where I always felt comfortable, whether that was choosing rep, combing through the technical aspects of a song, or just having a chat in French or Spanish. Laura made me feel so much more at ease going into auditions, exams, recitals and more.
One of the qualities I appreciate the most is Laura’s unwavering honesty – it’s so valuable to have a teacher who communicates directly, with kindness, but ultimately letting you know what she thinks. Laura is so down to earth, and always willing to have a discussion to make sure we’re on the same page.
Laura’s tuition was instrumental in being accepted into the Bachelor of Music (Classical voice) at both UWA and WAAPA.
Really, anyone would be lucky to study with someone with as much wisdom and kindness as Laura.
